The February meeting of 2018

The Chairman’s welcome included detail of our current venue and possible disruption to our normal schedule due many sporting and social events not least commemorative events marking the end of WW1; there was also notification a very welcome donation from Rotary Club which the Secretary will write and thank them for.

The Chairman also mentioned the ‘Local Listings’ request from Hounslow for submission of items of the local townscape that the Council would consider for the list – the deadline being mid March

Under items of Interest the chairman spoke of Influenza pandemic or the early twentieth century and how it affected ‘Feltham’

Examples given were of four funerals in one particular day taking place in Feltham, one being in Hounslow Cemetery whilst the others being at Feltham Cemetery

The Hon Secretary spoke of Hounslow’s Parks Master Plan and how it pertains to Feltham Park,, Glebe Lands, Poor’s Piece and Clymping Dene.

Under Forthcoming Events notice was given of the Spring Local History Talks, the first on the Saturday 21st April entitled ‘Along the Road’ which will be journey along local major roads of Feltham,Hanworth and Bedfont. Saturday 2nd June the talk will be given by James Marshall, Hounslow’s Local Studies Officer, and keeping on the theme of roads James will enlighten us as to the history of the Roman Road in our part of South West Middlesex

In AOB there was note of a royal visit, by the Duchess of Cambridge at Reach Academy.

The short talk was given by the Hon Secretary and was a revisit to the list of Feltham Worthies that was featured in our quarterly magazine Feltham Notes.
